Carlisle United have confirmed the signing of Aston Villa striker Brad Young.

The teenage forward has joined the Cumbrians on a season-long loan deal.

Young, 18, could be involved in Chris Beech's squad in tomorrow night's League Two clash at Port Vale.

The promising forward, who starred in Villa's FA Youth Cup-winning side last season, becomes United's sixth new signing this summer.

Young fired 21 goals in the Under-18 Premier League, Premier League 2 and FA Youth Cup in the 2020/21 season.

He scored from the penalty spot in the youth cup final as Villa beat Liverpool 201.

The striker had been earmarked for a loan move this season to gain first-team experience.

Young has already played at Brunton Park before, as part of the Villa Under-21 side beaten 3-1 by the Blues in last season's Papa John's Trophy.

He featured twice in the competition, before making a first-team appearance for the Villans when a young side faced Liverpool in the FA Cup in January.

United boss Chris Beech said they have been monitoring Young for some time and had been impressed when Young played against Carlisle in last November's Trophy game.

“To a man, all of our staff were impressed with his performance for a young away side that night," Beech said.

"He was continuously running and working our back line, which just goes to show for any young player, it’s important to make that impression because you never know who’s watching and what can come from it.”

Beech said Young is a centre-forward with a "hunger and desire" to impress and make his name in senior football.

“He’s a player who works tirelessly, pressing and working from the front, and he has very good movement and an eye for goal, with an exceptional goals-to-games ratio as he’s progressed through youth football," Beech added on United's website.

“There were a number of teams, including those in higher leagues, who had Brad on their radar and I’m fortunate to have a good relationship with Dean Smith at Aston Villa. He’s aware of my coaching principles and what Brad will get out of coming here to us.

“Adam Henshall [head of emerging talent and loans] at Villa has also been really supportive of Brad coming to us, and he worked hard behind the scenes to make it happen.

“It’s also personally pleasing that what we’re trying to achieve is being recognised at that Premier League level. I want our football club to have that reputation and standing.

“Brad could be a real asset to the group this season, and I look forward to working with him.”

Young is the latest signing this summer after the earliere additions of Tristan Abrahams, Zach Clough, Corey Whelan, Lukas Jensen and Manasse Mampala.
