Penrith AFC claimed an impressive victory at Whitley Bay as they make a positive start to the new Northern League season.

Dave Hewson's side won 3-2 in their first away game of the campaign.

Penrith raced into a 3-0 lead and then held on for the points as the north east outfit staged a late fightback.

Kingsley Grandison gave Hewson's visitors the first-half lead before Bryce Dean-Norman and Connor Shields were also on target after the break at Hillheads Park.

In front of a 393 crowd, the home side responded with goals from Hishi Lama and Jason Chanayire.

But Penrith saw off the threat of losing their lead to ensure a four-point start to the Division One campaign, after Saturday's 2-2 opening-day home draw with Ashington.

The Frenchfield Park side are in FA Cup action this weekend when they host Guisborough Town in the Extra Prelimary Round.

Meanwhile, Carlisle City are in Northern League Division Two action tonight at Jarrow, having started the campaign with a 4-2 win against Billingham Synthonia.
