A LOCAL man has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to the Poppy Appeal by the Royal British Legion.
Bill Hall has been nominated for the Golden Poppy Award, a very prestigious achievement.
Bill of Branthwaite has been the Poppy Organiser for the Ullock and District Branch of The Royal British Legion for longer than any one can remember.
Ian Chambers, Secretary of Ullock District British Legion said: “I think his efforts are exceptional he has dedicated a lot of time to the cause.”
Bill, who is a former soldier, has been responsible for collecting for the branch from villages around the Workington area.
He also arranges collections from local churches, pubs, schools and with the help of The National Park volunteers a collection at each year’s Gt. Gable service.
It is estimated that he will have raised £100,000 for the Royal British Legion in the many years he has volunteered.
Bill was presented with the award last week at the Keswick Branch by the National President Lieutenant General Bashall.
Mr Chambers added: “Since leaving the army Bill has wanted to do what he could to support the troops.”
