Carlisle United 3 Everton U23 2: beat Everton's Under-23s 3-2 in a behind-closed-doors friendly today.

The Blues came from behind to get the edge over David Unsworth's visitors.

Ex-Everton striker Manasse Mampala hit the winner for Chris Beech's side.

Jon Mellish and Lewis Bell were also on target in United's penultimate pre-season game.

The game also saw right-back George Tanner return to action with a 77-minute outing after missing recent friendlies.

Lewis Alessandra also returned to action but Danny Devine, Rod McDonald and Morgan Feeney remained out.

Everton opened the scoring early on before Zach Clough hit the post for the Cumbrians.

Last season's top scorer Mellish then pounced to equalise after Clough had hit the crossbar.

Everton hit the post themselves early into the second half before the Toffees regained the lead from close range.

But teenager Bell made it 2-2 with a deflected finish in the 83rd minute.

And moments later new signing Mampala scored against his former club in style with a fine effort into the top corner.
