Bergen Tree Services

News and Star:

Bergen Tree Services was established in 1990 by Andrew Hancock to provide professional tree care solutions for all tree owners in the South Lakeland and North Lancashire areas

With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, holding vocational certification, academic and professional qualifications, including a Royal Forestry Society Certificate in Arboriculture, and recognised Safety Management qualifications, Andrew is ideally placed to provide sound and impartial advice on any tree related matter.

Professional tree care is a commitment to the future and, in the long term, as in any industry, it always pays to take advice from, and use the services of, reputable professionals because inappropriate or ill-advised tree work can endanger the tree, the public and the customer.

Cutting corners is never cost effective; it only takes a few minutes to do irreparable damage to a healthy tree which has stood for many years.

News and Star:

At Brownthwaite Hardy Plants, plants are propagated and grown on the premises without heat to promote hardiness. Wide ranges of hardy perennials are grown, including old favourites as well as some newer introductions. We also grow a range of hostas, large and small, old and new, and a selection of grasses and sedges are also available in a range of sizes colours and for various situations. Ferns are available to suit most positions. A small expanding range of alpines are also on sale.

Our specialities now are primula auricula and hydrangeas. Auriculas are available in most colours and forms like border, alpine and show hydrangeas. Hydrangea serrata cultivars are propagated and grown on the nursery (approximately 20 varieties at present). Hydrangea arborescens, and hydrangea paniculata are also propagated. Smaller numbers of interesting species and cultivars are also available. There is ample free off road parking and wheelchair access. Please feel free to call us if you have any concerns.

Brownthwaite Hardy Plants is a traditional working nursery in the beautiful Lune Valley, on the Cumbria - Lancashire border. Follow the brown tourist signs from the A65 that is signed Brownthwaite Nurseries, between Cowan Bridge and Kirkby Lonsdale, to visit a treasure trove of hardy plants grown at altitude in the foothills of the Pennines.
