FREEDOM Day is finally here , with all legal restrictions ending after the Covid-19 pandemic- nightclubs and dancefloors being able to re-open.

Some dedicated punters in Cumbria braved the bars last night to get ready for the clock to pass 12pm and the dancefloors to re-open.

People in Club 135, Whitehaven counted down the seconds as July 19 was welcomed in before making their way to the dancefloor for the first time in nearly 18 months.

Last night the popular Whitehaven nightclub took to their Facebook and said: "Join us from 8pm tonight, ticking down the hours until all social distancing, FINALLY! Comes to an end. Better than NYE!!!!"

Ravers were ushered onto the floor at 12.01am whilst the Ultra Nate anthem- Free played , almost perfectly describing the moment to all.

Elsewhere, some nightclubs are happy to re-open but have decided to wait until the weekend before they welcome customers back.

Workington's much-loved Junction bar and nightclub will wait until Thursday to open up to the crowds.

On their page they posted: " 𝕎𝕖 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜 𝕓𝕒𝕓𝕪 No tables! No restrictions! Just good times... and maybe some dancing too! We will be open from 6pm until 3am on Friday and Saturday with our very own DJ Bear back in the box where he belongs! "
