A PUBLIC consultation on Carlisle City Council’s draft Carlisle Plan for 2021-2023 is now underway.

This is a way for residents to have their say on decisions made by the authority.

The plan sets out the council’s vision and priorities for the medium term.

City council leader John Mallinson called it "an ambitious plan to deliver growth”.

He said: “Working with partners, more than £250 million of government funding has been secured to deliver housing, infrastructure, and regeneration projects.”

This will be in addition to two other major projects already underway – the Sands Centre Redevelopment and the reinstatement of the ground floor of the Civic Centre.

Cllr Mallinson said: “Carlisle is now well placed to bounce back from the impact of the pandemic and the programmes and projects in the Carlisle Plan will make a tremendous contribution to this recovery.”

The plan will focus on two priorities: economic growth and health and wellbeing.

The council that these plans will continue to guide their use of new and existing resources.

Cllr Mallinson added: “This is in addition to the daily delivery of all the council services, which are equally important but often less visible.

“Working together we can deliver economic growth and improve health and wellbeing.”

For those wanting to find out more, a programme of public consultation events will be staged.

These will run from Monday August 2 to Friday August 6. Events will be held every day of that week at the Old Town Hall Assembly Room from.

They will also take place at Tribe Carlisle in Bitts Park.

The plan started on Monday and will run until August 6 and to get involved participants are asked to fill in an online survey to give responses the council can then consider.
