England and Manchester United star Dean Henderson surprised his former school with a visit after the Three Lions' Euro 2020 semi-final triumph over Denmark.

The Whitehaven-born goalkeeper surprised pupils and teachers at St Benedict's Catholic High School to drop a signed shirt off for display in the PE department.

The 24-year-old dropped into the school on his way back to Manchester United after spending time at home.

Headteacher Emma Jackson said: "It was a surprise visit.

"It was very exciting; it is always lovely to see him.

"He does stay in touch with a number of teachers so we were very excited to see him, particularly in light of the victory last night."

Year 8 students who were having lunch at the time of Henderson's visit were lucky enough to see the Man United ace in the flesh.

The England goalkeeper had to withdraw from the Euro 2020 squad due to injury at the start of the tournament; however, that didn't stop pupils asking him the question that is on everyone's lips at the moment.

Emma said: "The kids were chanting his name and asking him if he thought it was coming home, and of course he said yes.

"We are very proud that he went to St Benedict's and it just shows you that our children can aspire to be whatever they want to be and be as successful as they can be."
