Emergency services were forced to block a main road in Carlisle after a three-car smash.

Cumbria police and Northwest ambulance service were called to the crash just after 12pm yesterday.

It happened in Dalston Road and two people were taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Cumbria police said: "We were contacted at about 12.15 pm on June 21 to a report of a three-vehicle collision on Dalston Road, Carlisle.

"Involved in the collision was a Volkswagen Tiguan, a Citroen DS3 and a Ford Fiesta.

"The driver of the Citroen, a womman in his twenties, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle with minor injuries.

"The driver of the Fiesta, a woman in her twenties, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle as a precaution.

"The driver of the Volkswagen was uninjured. The road was blocked while emergency services and recovery were on scene."
