This week the Government is expected to announce that all care home staff across the UK must have a compulsory Covid vaccine or face losing employment.

We spoke to Granville House Maryport care home manager, Rachell Fee, who said that all her staff have already been vaccinated – but that she could see some problems with compulsory vaccinations.

Our readers had mixed opinions on the new proposals expected to be announced.

John Hall felt that the vaccine idea was a no brainer, posting: "Why would people argue over having it? It’s a caring profession, surely it’s for the safety of the residents.

"When you work in a hospital you have to have hepatitis vaccination and other ones because it’s to protect you and others.”

However, Lynn Talbot took a very different view, saying: “Absolutely not! Whether you’re vaccinated or not, you can still pass it on to vulnerable people.

"I’ve had both my jabs, but I totally understand that it’s not for everyone, and that should be their choice!”

Rachel Taylor felt the government needed to be careful, adding: “Losing 20 per cent of care staff and health staff will cripple this sector, more than it already is. Be careful what you're pushing for."
