The Border Rambler bus service is due to return after over a year spent not running due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions and guidelines, making it harder to operate a public bus route.

The service served two routes, one from Carlisle to Laversdale, north of Carlisle Airport, and one from Brampton to the airport.

The service stopped running along with a lot of other minor services, however, Keith Meller, Conservative Party Councillor for Brampton and Fellside, got together with other Tory councillors from the Cumbria County Councillors to help get the bus service back up and running again.

The County Council helped them with administration and registering for the busses.

Keith Meller said: “We set it up along routes on the A69, where bus services have been withdrawn.

“There is quite a lot of Roman Wall access, for Hadrian’s Wall, on the route as well.

“We had about 17 drivers, however now because of Covid drawback we are currently reduced to only seven drivers.”

Speaking of how he felt about the Rambler Bus Service making a return, Kevin Meller said: “It is fantastic.

“It is really good to get back on the road again.

“We actually started the service back in March 2020 but, of course, that was when the whole coronavirus pandemic happened.”

The pandemic made bus services in particular difficult to run since much less people were using them.

“All our customers have been isolating and haven’t been able to meet any of their friends, but they can now we are running.”
