A new study has found the easiest place to get planing permission is not that far from home.

Copeland, a district in the Lake District, overseeing areas such as Whitehaven, Sellafield and Egremont has been found to be the EASIEST place in the UK to get planning permission for a household renovation, according to research by metals4U, the UK's largest online metal supplier.

metals4U's UK DIY Hotspots map and index reveals where it has the highest and lowest numbers of planning permission applications and the easiest and hardest locations to do a home renovation based on decision statistics.

The research also provides insight on trending purchasing habits by materials, suppliers, and home interiors experts for the year ahead, and how one pair managed to double the value of their home in just 9 months over lockdown.

With a gleaming 100% granted rate for applications in 2020, every household within both Copeland and the Isles of Scilly was allowed to carry out their home conversion no matter how big or small.

Following closely behind was the City of London and Bolsover in Chesterfield, just outside  Sheffield, both with a 98% acceptance rate for planning permission.  Carlisle in the North of England also made the list, coming in at 6th with 185 home renovations accepted over 2020 and a 97% acceptance rate.

Barking and Dagenham, in East London, was revealed as the hardest place to get planning permission approved for home renovation projects. With 319 applications in the area in 2020, only 52% of them were approved; unsurprisingly, the dense district of Redbridge in London rejected 62% of home renovations too.
