A plan for an estate of self-build homes in Cumwhinton has been rejected by the council.

In a vision outlined in an application submitted to Carlisle City Council, the proposed development was for a total of 24 self-build plots at Holme Meadow, Cumwhinton.

The intention behind the proposal was to provide serviced plots on which the self/custom builder can arrange to design and construct their own home.

However, a number of objections to the proposals had been submitted since the application was first registered.

Carlisle City Council confirmed that the plans did not fall in line with the city's Local Plan and, therefore was rejected.

They stated: "The proposed development will lead to an unacceptable intrusion into the open countryside and therefore conflicts with criterion 3 of Policy HO2 of the Carlisle District Local Plan 2015-2030."
