Tristan Abrahams said he wanted to join Carlisle United the moment he spoke to boss Chris Beech.

The striker last night became the Blues’ first new signing of the summer.

And the 22-year-old said he was “completely sold” on joining the Cumbrians once he had met head coach Beech.

Former Newport, Norwich and Leyton Orient man Abrahams said: “I spoke to a few different clubs, but once I had spoken to the gaffer I was completely sold and it was an easy decision.

“I just wanted to get it done as soon as possible.

“He [Beech] is someone I feel believes in me, and that’s something that I felt I needed.

“I’m just going to use this as a platform and hopefully get as many games as possible and repay the faith he’s putting in me.

“I believe in myself that I can repay that faith and do big things at the club.”

Abrahams hit eight goals for Newport last season and believes he can be a goalscoring success for the Cumbrians in 2021/22.

He also said he is looking forward to playing for a side that has caught his eye in past campaigns.

He said: “After seeing and playing against the side for a few years, and seeing how well they did last season, knowing how this [next] season can go and the plans for the club, it was an easy decision once I had met the gaffer.

“It was always a team that I watched quite closely. I really enjoyed the style of play, the freedom of the attacking players; it was something I wanted to get involved with.

“I really do feel like it’s going to be perfect for me because I’m somebody who always works hard. I know that I’m going to fit in with what he [Beech] is looking to do.

“He just wants me to play on my attributes of being quick, powerful and strong, and to score as many goals as possible.”

Abrahams says he prefers to play as a central striker but is happy to “play anywhere” in Beech’s preferred system.

On his attributes, the striker added: “I’m someone that works his socks off, I work hard, I feel I’m a direct player, I feel like I score goals, I’m quite quick, and I’m always someone who’ll give 110 per cent for the club.

“I’m quite young, but I’ve been at a few clubs now and I’m quite experienced. I’m looking forward to being here, getting some regular football and hopefully kicking on.”

Abrahams has had several loan moves in the past with clubs including Exeter, for whom he scored against United in 2018.

He added: “I’ve learned that you just have to know your own game and simplify it. At a young age you try to do a bit too much at times. But I’ve gained a lot of experience, I know my strengths and it’s just what I do with my strengths and do the basics well to get better.

“The club here is very well-run, I’m very happy with the facilities. Having a look round, [you can see] the pitch is in good nick, and it’s a good club.

“I’m going to give 110 per cent, hope for the best and be optimistic that things work out well initially with the team, and hope we can get as far up the table as possible, and personally go from there.”

Abrahams is also delighted at the length of deal he has been handed by the Blues.

“I’m thrilled with that,” he said. “It means I have a lot of time with this club and I can’t wait to make this my new home.

“I’m 22 now and time waits for no-one. I’m at a point where I need to get some regular football in and get a good couple of seasons under my belt. I’m ready to kick on now.”
