A Carlisle man will be sentenced at crown court after he admitted dangerous driving.

Rory Dunn Gourlay Thompson, 33, of Cavaghan Gardens on London Road drove his BMW erratically on Sunday May 21, ignoring a number of red traffic lights along London Road and a number of side streets.

At Carlisle Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to supply a breath sample.

George Shelley prosecuting told the court how officers on mobile patrol around mid-night noticed a BMW car driving erratically and went though a number of red lights during his erratic driving.

Police then turned round and followed the speeding car as it mounted a pavement on London Road into a bus lane. Thompson then drove onto his driveway at speed. Officers asked the driver to get out of the car.

He refused and the officer had to smash the driver's side window and take the keys from the car. At the scene he refused to give his name or take a breathalyser test.

Thompson was arrested and failed on two occasions to provide a breath sample at the Durranhill police station, magistrates were informed.

He has one previous offence of dangerous driving some years ago.

Thompson admitted the charges, but magistrates said these offences were too serious for this court, and outside their sentencing powers.

He will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on July 14. He was given an interim driving disqualification, and a pre sentence report was ordered for the hearing.
