A hotel and spa in the Lake District is predicting a staycation book in the UK after seeing a spike in summer bookings.

Occupancy at the Armathwaite Hotel and Spa near Keswick is upwards of 93 per cent and bookings have also been placed for next year.

The hotel and spa recently reopened on May 17.

General Manager of Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa, Simon Steele, said: "Since our reopening, our occupancy rates have continued to grow exponentially and have surpassed our expectations.

"We’re pleased to be able to reopen with our full offering of activities and even better, a full team of staff especially after such a difficult year for hospitality.

"It’s wonderful to see our guests enjoying our beautiful hotel and extensive outdoor facilities.

"After being cooped up at home for so long, it’s great that the Lake District is being appreciated for its natural beauty once more and we look forward to welcoming guests as the Summer months continue."

During lockdown, Armathwaite Hall also welcomed filming of some TV shows, including 'The Real Housewives of Cheshire'.

The episode featuring the hotel was broadcast on the May 31 bank holiday.

During the episode, the cast were seen to be enjoying themselves throughout the hotel and spa, and General Manager, Simon Steele, also made his appearance to welcome the cast in the hotel’s lounge area.

Armathwaite Hall can also be seen in a popular comedy series due to broadcast later this year.

The reopening has also led to the expansion of the hotel and spa staff to help fulfil the new demands of bookings.
