Cumbrian Swimmer Luke Greenbank has smashed the 200m British backstroke record twice in one day at the European Aquatics Championships.
Luke, who trained with Cockermouth swimming club, came first in the semi final with an unbelievable time of 1.54.43, beating the new record of 1.54.67 that he set in this mornings heats.
In an interview with British swimming after the race this morning , Luke said: “I’m absolutely over the moon with that,I went into it looking to try and put down a good marker, set the standard high and then try to build on that in the semi and the final.”
"I knew I was capable of going 1.55 like I did at Manchester, so to beat that by a second I’m absolutely over the moon.”
The results sets him in good stead for the 200m finals tomorrow.
The World-Championship 200m Backstroke medallist proved to be the main event in both of today's sessions and is set to go into tomorrow's final full of confidence.
The finals of the event is scheduled to take place tomorrow evening.
