A popular carpets and flooring business has announced that it will be relocating after eight years at its current premises.

Neil McBrearty Carpets and Flooring, will be moving from its current location on Corporation Road to Durranhill Road, off Warwick Road in Carlisle.

The new shop will open on Tuesday June 1.

Owner, Neil McBrearty said he is “delighted” with the move after what has been a challenging few years due to floods in 2016, and more recently, the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Business is always a challenge. The pandemic has probably been a bigger challenge than the floods,” said Neil.

“But, you survive because it’s your livelihood and you’ve got a good customer base that comes back to you and helps you get through it.

“This will be a new challenge, but hopefully it will make life easier for myself and my staff.

“I’m just looking forward so much to getting in there and seeing my customers in the new shop.

A bigger showroom will allow Neil's business to employ more staff and make social distancing easier.

Neil said he will miss the premises on Corporation Road, but he is looking forward to moving on to pastures new.

He added: “I will miss it because it’s served my business so well, but you move on don’t you.

“The business has grown down there, but it’s probably outgrown it now.”

To prepare for the opening, the Corporation Road shop will close on May 24.

However, Neil will still be trading and is happy to call in on his customers.
