THERE has been lots of support for plans for Carlisle airport.

Many readers commented, suggesting routes which they would like to see. Others felt it would be a great boost for the county and its economy, encouraging lots more people to come here.

The businessman whose company has acquired Carlisle Lake District Airport says he aims to see scheduled passenger flights restarted by the summer.

The Isle of Man-based company involved – Ettyl Limited – confirmed last month that it has signed agreements for the acquisition of Stobart Air and Carlisle Lake District Airport from Esken Limited, the aviation and energy infrastructure group.

Ann Devenish commented: "Would be great if you could bring back the Carlisle to Dublin again."

Sharon Joy Reynolds said: "Bring back the flights to the Channel Islands too. I can remember when I was little flying from Carlisle airport."
