COPELAND residents will have the opportunity to have some of their questions about proposals for a nuclear waste disposal site in the borough answered this month.

Copeland's Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) working group is hosting a series of online events to explain more about the geology of the plan, following local feedback.

If it goes ahead, the GDF would see higher activity radioactive waste stored deep underground - but could also bring economic benefits to the area.

The latest online events will be held on Thursday, May 27, 11.30am-1pm or 6.30pm-8pm, also on Saturday, May 29, 10.30am-12pm. Anyone interested in attending is asked to register by going to: copelandGDF.rwmevents.co.uk.

Working Group Chair Mark Cullinan said: “Geology is a topic which often comes up locally and therefore we wanted it to be a focus for these events to allow people to hear from experts and to ask their own questions.

“We plan to break out into smaller groups to allow more in-depth discussion to take place during the 90-minute sessions."
