A MOBILE post office is to serve Abbeytown after its own post office was closed temporarily following the retirement of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises at Station View.

The postmaster from Wigton Post Office will provide a temporary mobile post office service to Abbeytown to restore services while a permanent solution is sought.

Karen Bragg, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted to be restoring post office service to Abbeytown as we know how important a post office is to a community.

“We thank the postmaster for Wigton for providing this service while we continue to seek a permanent solution.”

The mobile service will operate from The Wheatsheaf Inn car park on Abbey Road in Abbeytown, about 85 metres away from the temporarily closed branch.

The outreach service will commence this coming Thursday at 3.15pm.

A wide range of post office services will be provided once a week on a Thursday from 3.15pm to 3.45pm.
