CAMPAIGNERS have outlined post-Covid plans to deal with anti-social behaviour by youths in Longtown.

Arthuret Parish Councillors discussed plans with regards to land between Lochinvar Close and Old Road at an online meeting on Tuesday.

It follows a string of recent incidents including the vandalism of a bus stop.

Questions on the subject had been asked by a member of the public.

The resident, who was not named, said: "Regarding the issues we faced in Longtown recently around the rise in anti-social behaviour.

"It's around the fact that the kids are bored and there is nothing for them to do.

"What might we be able to do as a community for younger people to do."

Gordon Routledge, the council's vice chairman, said: "We will be consulted on the area behind Lochinvar Close to do something for young people, but we have not been able to consult because of the Covid regulations, the restrictions have prevented us doing anything this year."

Karen Johnson, said that £84,000 has been given to the parish council as part of a Section 106 agreement, an agreement with a developer where they contribute to facilities as part of a planning application.

She said: "We own land between Lochinvar Close and Old road.

"What we had pre-Covid was plans to develop area for the youth of the town and one of the things was exercise equipment and multi use games area.

"We need to have community consultation but we can't allow people to come into the council rooms because of Covid but there will be one soon."

Mrs Johnson also updated councillors on the recent bus stop vandalism incident outside The Graham Arms, on English Street.

She said: "The shelter window was smashed and the police are involved but no one is prepared to make a statement, they are aware of the person who broke the window I'm not sure how far we are going to get with it."
