Cumbria County Council has officially confirmed that it 'deleted' a proposal for parking restrictions in Longtown.

In March many residents were outraged after the authority mooted plans for restrictions on English Street, Main Street and Bridge which included a one hour waiting time and parking permits for residents.

And hundreds signed a petition voicing their opposition.

The issue was discussed at an online Arthuret Parish Council meeting on Tuesday.

Karen Johnson, parish clerk, read out the response from the county council.

She said: "I received a response on April 23.

"The proposal has provoked a high response of objections to those who would be directly affected, so the comments made by those consulted were considered.

"As a result the proposal will be deleted in its entirety and the county council will take no further action on this matter."
