A popular cafe, cinema and gallery near Penrith will be welcoming back visitors soon.

Rheged is delighted to announce that as step three of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown is reached many of the indoor facilities that residents and visitors have come to love over the years will be back.

“After months in lockdown we are thrilled to welcome people back to our new cafe, new exhibition, new films, play area and shops this summer,” said Sarah Dunning, chair of the Westmorland Family, the Cumbrian family business that owns and operates Rheged.

She added: “The whole team is looking forward to seeing people enjoy shared experiences and relish coming together again with friends, colleagues and loved ones.”

On opening day - May 17, breakfast will be served from 8.30am in a new and spacious cafe that includes a juice bar, seasonal menus and pizza oven.

Shoppers who’ve missed Rheged’s clothing, design and lifestyle collections can begin browsing again at 9am. Curated for Cumbrian life but inspired by craft, design and talent from far and wide, Rheged’s shops are stocked with niche British makers, ethical brands and items.

A new Deli offers edible gifts as well as functional cookware and eco-conscious kitchen accessories.

Freshly made sandwiches, cakes, English Lakes ice cream and speciality coffee from Carvetii Coffee Roasters at Threlkeld are sold at the Deli counter for take away or to enjoy indoors.

Visitors will be pleased to hear that Rheged’s giant-screen cinema opens in time for the release of the triple-Oscar-winning Nomadland, whose epic midwestern landscapes can be experienced as filmmaker Chloé Zhao intended them on Rheged’s mighty 18-metre screen.

The long-awaited sequel Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway will be among the highlights of a family-friendly programme.

The team is also delighted to reopen Indoor Play to children aged 1-8.

Parents and carers can book now for 90-minute sessions, which are limited to small numbers to facilitate enhanced hygiene - the play area will be thoroughly cleaned between each play session.

Outdoor Play will remain closed for now pending maintenance.
