CUMBRIA is emerging from strict lockdown – and it tastes good....
That was certainly true at the weekend as a queue of customers snaked down Maryport’s Senhouse Street to get into Yummies, newly opened and offering treats that include ‘overloaded waffles’, milk shakes, ice cream, and various other treats, teas and coffees.
The business has been launched for former travel agent Saskia Wilson, 27, a mum-of-two who previously worked for Thomas Cook and Hayes.
She and her three staff worked flat out at the weekend as locals flocked to the shop, enjoying a freedom they once took for granted, though social distancing continued to apply.
The business has clearly hit a “sweet spot”, with the queue at times stretching for more than 50ft. “It was incredible,” said Saskia, who thanked her customers, saying: “I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the support of you amazing people in this town.”
