A gym is planning to expand into larger premises in Carlisle city centre.

In an application received by Carlisle City Council, Target Wrestling are looking to move to a new unit at Carlisle Enterprise Centre.

Currently, the site industrial unit is in use by Rapid Repairs Appliance Care.

The applicant is keen to make use of the larger space to attract a wider range of clientele.

Mr Nattrass owns Target Wrestling which currently occupies another unit within Carlisle Enterprise Centre. The current unit does not have sufficient space for the applicant’s growing business and enabling users to social distance during training sessions.

He stated: "The proposed use will cater to the surrounding local area, with most of the users constituting residents and employees from the surrounding neighbourhoods. Target Wrestling aims to increase access to health and fitness activities to a wide demographic to encourage and improve health by providing accessible sessions."

As Target Wrestling provide most of their sessions after 5pm, when the other businesses occupying the Enterprise Centre have closed, it is anticipated that there will be sufficient parking available for users.

The proposed change of use does not require any internal or external alterations to the existing unit. There are separate changing facilities and toilets available within the Enterprise Centre and the unit has a roller shutter door to allow circulation of air during training sessions.

The applicant states that the impact of the proposed use on adjoining and surrounding occupiers will be minimised.

In planning documents, they said: "It should also be noted that the site is not in close proximity to any residential dwellings and is enclosed by light industrial units.

"The proposed nature of the sports facility means that training sessions will mostly be taking place when the neighbouring businesses have closed. Furthermore, each unit is sound- proofed and occupied by industrial uses which are not sensitive to noise."
