Towards the end of an era when many contractors are completing their retreat into low-risk engineering services, NUVIA remains as hungry as ever for full-lifecycle delivery.

NUVIA HAS A LONG ESTABLISHED and successful history of developing innovative, award-winning engineering solutions to some of the more complex, and technically challenging projects, particularly in the nuclear industry.

NUVIA fundamentally believe that the only true way to create maximum customer confidence in the credibility of concepts and ideas is to be prepared to see them through to implementation. The best innovators are those who invest commercially, have skin-in-the-game, and are rewarded for success. That is why NUVIA not only has some of the cleverest minds ready to crack the hardest nuts but also an end-state cultural mindset.

While the appetite to design, build and operate facilities in hazardous and highly regulated nuclear environments is omnipresent in NUVIA, customers often slice and dice projects into chronological phases. NUVIA will always bring a holistic approach that extends well beyond project delivery disciplines and leverages strong in-house nuclear experienced blue-collar and health physics capabilities.

A recent award winning project undertaken by NUVIA, was the successful demolition of Sellafield’s tallest stack. Removing the 60-metre First Generation Repossessing Plant (FGRP) chimney, which stood over a storage facility for hazardous nuclear waste, utilised the innovative NUVIA designed self-climbing platform solution that allowed the stack to be dismantled by hand to ensure the utmost safety.

NUVIA’s innovative approach to the unique Sellafield demolition project saw the collaborative project team secure many awards, not least for the health and safety approach. For NUVIA, health and safety is always a priority. Recently, NUVIA has taken particular pride in securing RoSPA’s (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Order of Distinction, which recognises 23 consecutive years of Gold standard safety, and follows previously securing the prestigious Sir George Earle Trophy in 2019. This award is competed by over 2000 companies worldwide and given to the nominee that most closely exemplifies excellence in health and safety management.

While the Sellafield stack demolition received multiple accolades, NUVIA is also recognised globally for delivering solutions for complex issues throughout the industry.

NUVIA’s EPC and Programmes business provides services and turnkey solutions across and into the entire project lifecycle. NUVIA’s team can design and build facilities to support new build operations, manage legacy or decommissioning wastes, post-operation clean-out, and dismantle structures and retrofit new process systems into existing facilities.

The company also offers a range of project and programme management services, including owners engineer, architect-engineer, setting up and running a project management office and operating as the overall project managing contractor.

NUVIA employ experts in waste characterisation and management, engineering disciplines, and proprietary technology to deliver integrated solutions from feasibility and concept design right through to construction, commissioning and operation. NUVIA is experienced in developing bespoke, Modified of the Shelf (MOTS) and Commercial of the Shelf (COTS) solutions depending on our customers’ expectations, to ensure optimum value for money conventional plant and equipment can be readily adapted to the nuclear environment.  Indeed, the self-climbing platform was a development of a proven system that had been deployed at Battersea power station.

The EPC and Programmes team can offer single or multidiscipline engineering packages as stand-alone projects, techno-commercial procurement services for and on behalf of a client, construction management and commissioning support, and has the flexibility to provide tailored EPC management (EPCm) packages to dovetail seamlessly into a customer’s preferred delivery strategy.

NUVIA can operate under a full spectrum of commercial and risk-sharing arrangements to ensure customer confidence in out-turn delivery. Including taking overall through-project responsibility at one extreme, to personnel augmentation of the client’s project team with technical/project management/controls personnel at the other.

NUVIA can integrate into a customer’s programme goals and be incentivised accordingly to ensure complete alignment of expectations at all stages of the project process — from the cradle to the grave.

The NUVIA EPC and Programmes teams can draw on the full breadth and experience of all areas of NUVIA, such as health physics, field services, consulting and offer a multi-disciplinary team of experts. In addition, NUVA can utilise the support of parent group VINCI, the world’s largest construction and concessions organisation, and leverage synergies with our subsidiaries to provide a truly scalable solution across a broad range of project sizes and complexities.

The engineering teams have extensive knowledge and experience in delivering design solutions for radiological and supporting R&D facilities while always following robust delivery procedures and guidance to meet appropriate Site Licence Conditions.
