A GROUP that has made a huge difference to Wigton's families in need has changed its name.

After stepping up and helping some of the vulnerable families, the team from Wigton's Children Food Pantry has changed its name.

Now know as Wigton Families Lunchbox, it wants to continue with the hard work it has been doing by offering emergency food parcels discreetly.

Emma Budworth, one of the founding members, said: “ We have changed our name to stop any confusion with another group in Wigton that has a different aim, but also to better represent our group.

“We had 17 families come forward for help, our biggest number yet, with more than 40 children between them.

“Each family was supported with a food parcel each week of the holidays, including some fresh items, like milk, eggs and fruit.

“We received an amazing donation from Lloyds Bank with bought an Easter egg for every child we supported.

“We used a little money raised to create each child a little craft bag to keep them busy this holidays.

“Our volunteers, Susan, Katie, Jade, Diane, Jane and Emma spent Saturday mornings delivering food parcels and treats to each child to make sure no child in our community would go hungry. On top of this, we had two emergency response parcels go out.

“It’s sad to think so many need support, after the year we’ve had its not unexpected. I’m pleased our community feels they can come to us when they need help and that our community is there to support others when they can.”
