A CARLISLE man has been warned he faces a likely jail sentence after he admitted burgling a pharmacy in the city and stealing prescription drugs.

The city’s crown court heard that Steven Jordan stole Pregabalin tablets from the Well Pharmacy in Fusehill Street on March 14 this year. The barrister representing the defendant, of Borland Avenue, Carlisle, said he would welcome working with the Probation Service to tackle his issues around mental health and drugs.

"He wants to set himself on a proper path back towards a responsible life," barrister Judith McCullough told Judge Nicholas Barker.

The judge said: "Bearing in mind he was locked up last January for similar offending for 14 months sentence, it seems the chances of an alternative sentence being imposed this time are slim."

Despite that, the judge said he would adjourn so a background report can be prepared, telling Jordan: "I'll allow a pre-sentence report but don't raise your hopes from the fact that I am doing so. It will assist the court in understanding what your circumstances are and why things have gone so badly wrong." Jordan - remanded in custody - will be sentenced on May 14.
