AN ASPATRIA man who had denied assaulting a woman on September 4 last year has been convicted of the offence after a trial.
Robert Gibson, 68, of Outgang Road, was convicted of the assault by beating, at Aspatria, after a hearing at Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates Court.
He was fined £250 and magistrates imposed a restraining order, banning any contact with the victim until April 14 next year.
They also ruled he must pay the woman he assaulted compensation of £100 as well well as prosecution costs, assessed to be £250 because there was a trial. The court also told Gibson to pay a £34 victim surcharge.
