A FARMING prodigy has caught the eye of BBC TV producers with her diaries of agricultural life.

Katie, 14, who lives at Dufton near Appleby has been making a diary of her life on the farm for BBC Radio Cumbria and due to their viral popularity, she has turned the head of popular evening TV show, Countryfile.

She has been immersed in farming life since her family moved to the county in 2011.

Growing up in an agricultural setting, Katie is now able to carry out lambing on her own.

Countryfile will give Katie, and sheepdog Gem their 15 minutes of fame on Sunday night.

Speaking of welcoming producers to the farm, Katie’s mum Kirstin said: “I was very nervous but Katie was just a star, she soon got into her stride.

“Katie loves talking about the farm and we often had friends and family around before lockdown but obviously she couldn’t do that anymore and needed to keep in touch with people so started doing little clips and videos and audio for family and friends, Radio Cumbria heard about them and picked them up.”

In a recent update heard on Mike Zeller’s breakfast show, Katie told Cumbria about how her and her mother are raising calves that were born in November.

She said: “Because we’ve bucket reared them, they’re all nice and friendly so it’s quite safe just walking in with them.”

A video clip on social media accompanied Katie’s audio diary, showing happy young calves bouncing around their paddock in the hay.

Tune in to BBC One on Sunday at 6pm to see Katy and her family’s farm.
