A west Cumbrian hospice has received a funding boost of over £24,000 to help it deliver care to patients in their own homes and other community-based settings.

Sellafield Ltd made the grant of £24,487 towards the specialist palliative and end of life nursing service delivered by Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

The service is the only charitable one of its kind in the region and is provided free of charge for all adults with a life limiting condition.

Home Nursing Team Leader, Christina Nicholson, said: "Everyone at Hospice at Home West Cumbria is extremely grateful for the very generous, continued support the organisation has received from Sellafield Ltd.

"This funding for the home nursing service will help us continue to provide vital end of life care and support to our patients and their loved ones within the west Cumbrian communities."

According to Hospice at Home West Cumbria, the charity has to raise £1 million every year in order to provide their services free of charge for families across west Cumbria.

Ms Nicholson added: "Every year we care for around 250 patients who have a life limiting illness, and enabling them to remain in a place of their choice is so important.

"The past year has brought many challenges for our teams, but we have continued to provide home nursing care during the pandemic, supporting our local community during incredibly difficult times."

Therapists at the hospice offer a range of services, including mindfulness, reflexology, Reiki, therapeutic massage, and breathing and relaxation techniques.

Treatments are offered to patients with life limiting conditions and their loved ones.

A support service for families, delivered by Family and Bereavement Support (FABS) team is also offered by the hospice.
