Plans to build 66 new homes in Broughton Moor have been given the go-ahead.

Housebuilder Gleeson Homes has been given planning permission to build the "affordable, quality" homes on the land off Dearham Road.

The developer says there is strong demand in the area for new build homes.

It will be known as Calluna Grange, and will see the six-acre land transformed into an estate with two to four bedroom semi and detached homes.

The development will be made up of 13 affordable homes, priced at 20 per cent lower than their market value, with a Section 106 agreement which states that Gleeson will adapt local footpaths, and improve the children’s play area close by.

There will also be an open green space, with Gleeson planting a wildflower meadow to "improve biodiversity and ecology in Broughton Moor".

The developer says they will also improve road safety by relocating a 30mph speed limit.

Construction at Calluna Grange is set to begin in summer 2021, with the show homes opening in autumn.

The first new homes for sale will be released for sale in September 2021 with the first homeowners expected to move into their homes in the Spring of 2022.

This will be Gleeson’s seventh site in Cumbria and will be the third site specifically in West Cumbria, with Florence Drive, a small development of 28 homes in Egremont, and another recently acquired development, The Rowans, 220 new homes in Workington.

David Wright, Land Director at Gleeson said: “We are looking forward to bringing much needed new homes for first time buyers and key workers to West Cumbria. This will be our third in West Cumbria and first in Allerdale, a thriving area where we expect there will be exceptional demand from first-time buyers for our homes.

"We are delighted to be supporting the local area by improving roads, footpaths and play areas, as well as supporting the community by employing a workforce on site that will be made up of local labour and contractors. Calluna Grange will see 73 jobs created or sustained directly, with 143 jobs positively impacted in the supply chain.”

Gleeson Homes are seeking local labour and sub-contractors to work on the new development, including applications from young people who are interested in joining the Gleeson apprenticeship scheme.
