A Cumbrian couple who set up a charity in memory of their late daughter have announced their first organised fundraising event in more than a year.

Team Evie announced that the Three Lakes Walk 2021 is scheduled for 29 August and members of the public are being invited to take part.

The event will see participants walk around Ennerdale Lake, Crummock Lake, and Buttermere Lake - a distance of 29 miles - in one day.

Chief Executive Officer of Team Evie, Greg Johnston, said it is the memory of Evie that keeps driving them to continue raising money for charity through events like the Three Lakes Walk.

Greg and his wife, Jill, sadly lost their daughter Evie, born in 2015, when she was only six months old.

“Our journey with her was all about positivity, it was all about what we can do for her and how we can help to get her through the next operation and through the next day,” said Greg.

“When she died, we thought that we had to create something for her that means her impact on the world is a positive one.”

Greg, from Great Broughton near Cockermouth, said he was looking forward to engaging in face to face fundraising once again.

He added: “It’s very exciting to finally be planning and doing something that we’re running and welcoming people to and that we will do together.

“It’s been great to get back into discussions with the events team about how we can improve the event and what we can do. There’s a buzz around it again, that we’re actually putting on an event.

“As every charity has been, we’ve been badly hit by not being able to do anything. With a charity like ours I think you create a community of people who like to be involved and support us. You can’t appreciate that fully until you’re all together at an event.

“It’s great that it can continue on social media, but you don’t feel the full force of it until you’re all together.

The Three Lakes was previously held in 2019.

The first 25 places for this years event, sponsored by Cumbrian Tea, have been released.
