New payment facilities are to be offered in Eden District Council owned pay and display car parks.
From April 1 motorists that park in Eden District Council owned pay and display car parks in Penrith and Appleby will also be able to pay for the car park using their phone and the PayByPhone app.
The app will give users the option of topping up their ticket remotely, in case they are delayed getting back to their vehicles.
The council say the app is quick and easy to download.
Alternatively users can call the telephone number next to the pay and display machines.
The council are reiterating that options to pay by cash or by contactless payment with a card will still be available to users too, in addition to the new payment methods that are coming in.
