READERS have wished an injured mountain rescue volunteer a speedy recovery.

This week, we provided an update on Patterdale Mountain Rescue volunteer Chris Lewis who suffered life-changing injuries in a 150 metre fall last month.

Mr Lewis remains in intensive care and will be hospitalised for the foreseeable future, requiring long-term support.

Mr Lewis was injured whilst taking part in a rescue mission to extract a wild camper who had become ill on Red Screes.

Readers of the News & Star wished him well. Helen Winder said: "Let's hope he makes a speedy recovery."

Heather Thompson told Patterdale Mountain Rescue: "Thank you for the recent update on Chris.

The lifesaver has been the subject of a fundraiser to support Chris and his family.

"Good to hear funds are doing well, though it cannot replace what he has lost, hope it helps." said Heather.

Gillian Murray said: "Get well soon Mr Lewis, you're a very brave man."

Jean Millie said: "Thoughts and prayers for your recovery. Let's hope when the lockdown is lifted and people decide to visit they bring with them, common sense and a respect for this beautiful county."

As the News & Star was going to press, the Chris Lewis Support Fund had reached £843,908 in donations, with people from across the country undergoing their own charity efforts for the cause.
