PROPOSALS to build five homes on a greenfield site in High Hesket have been lodged.

Eden District Council has received outline proposals earlier this month for “up to five dwellings, with all matters reserved” on land adjacent to Brackenridge.

The site is just over half an acre in size and the applicant is listed as a Ms J Nelson
The supporting statement by agents Addis Town Planning, on the council’s website, reads: “The site is located to the west of the village.

“It is bounded to the north by the public highway ‘U3454 104’, to the east by residential properties that address the main road through High Hesket.

“To the south there is agricultural land and it’s bounded to the west by the A6.

“The benefits of the proposal would be the construction of up to five new dwellings.
“During the building phase there would be economic benefits including labour and materials.

“More localised benefits include accommodation for contractors if required and increased trade at local services.

“A recent report by the Home Builders Federation found that in Eden alone in 2017-18 there were 187 new dwellings added to the housing supply which resulted in £31,723,215 worth of economic activity.

“Once the houses were occupied the new residents would benefit the area economically and socially i.e. through using local services including the pub, surgery, school and additional services in the nearby larger settlements of Carlisle and Penrith.”

“There are about 110 dwellings in High Hesket so an increase of five would be well below the 10 per cent limit in the Local Plan.

“It is considered that the proposal will respect the historic form of the village by building on the outer edge of the main road-fronting houses through the village.”

The public consultation on plans ends on March 31.

Target date for a decision is April 26.
