All schools are due to reopen next week after Boris Johnson announced a 'roadmap' for easing lockdown.

Schools will now reopen to all pupils on Monday, March 8.

And on the same date, outdoor recreation with one other person will also be permitted, meaning people will be allowed to sit together in a park with a coffee, drink or picnic.

Pupils have been home-schooled for a very long time now and we asked readers if they thought school holidays should be cut short and days last longer.

Here's what you had to say.

Tina Cassidy said: "No, who is going to work extra hours and in the holidays. Give teachers a break they've been working non-stop, doubling up on workload and keeping children learning all the way through.

"The only thing children need to catch up on is normality, seeing their grandparents and extended families, running freely with friends in the park, having play dates and so on."

Lyndsey Todd added: "Absolutely not. Children have worked hard with school work and missed out on so much already. They need a break. Teachers also need a break."

Dorothy Nugent commented: "No definitely not - think they have suffered enough this past year."

Danny Smith explained: "Most certainly not. I think this is probably the worst thing you could do for children and teachers right now."

Becky Brown continued: "This year has been painful for both teachers, teaching staff, children and parents - let the kids catch up on having some fun."

Janet Wilson said: "No, the teachers and school staff need a rest as they have been working more hours from home than they do in school."

Tracey Reay commented: "Absolutely not they have suffered enough without taking there summer holidays off them. They’ve been stuck in the house they need to enjoy themselves they deserve that."

Michael Byers explained: "Absolutely not my daughters, both teachers, have worked tirelessly during lockdown at school and from home they both tell me they have actually found they have worked harder during lockdowns."

Nat Charlton added: "I don't think my children would cope with a longer school day."

Emma Kray Was Varty said: "What about teachers who have worked more hours than before, remote learning has been tough and demanding for them, they deserve a break."

Claire Bennett said: "No they need a break from school work and teachers and school staff need their holidays too."
