Cumbria Constabulary has confirmed this afternoon that one of the people struck in a Carlisle collision has died.
A multi-agency response was mobilised to a fatal road traffic collision on West Tower Street, Carlisle this afternoon.
Police were called at 12.56pm to a collision involving a white panel van and two pedestrians, one male and one female.
The Great North Air Ambulance was called out along with Cumbria Police, the fire service and North West Ambulance Service.
A helicopter airlifted the woman to Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A family liaison officer has been appointed for his family.
Cumbria Constabulary said: "The road will remain closed whilst emergency services attend the scene and investigations are conducted."
"Anyone with information regarding the incident, who has yet to speak to police, is asked to contact 101 quoting log number 90 of the 1st of March."
