A HUGELY popular agricultural show has taken the decision to cancel this years event.

Following on from an Annual General Meeting held on Thursday (February 25), Skelton Show, which normally takes place near Penrith, decided to this years event would be held virtually instead.

It is the first time in the shows history it will be held virtually, via Zoom.

A statement posted on the shows website said: "The prospect of holding the 2021 show was discussed at length.

"Although the anticipated date to return to 'normal' life is Monday, June 21, the lockdown roadmap currently states that further work is required on how to safely hold outdoor events with a possibility of mass testing requirements upon entry.

"Taking on board the ongoing uncertainty and risk of delays to the end of the restriction period, and with time now critical for all the organizational preparations to make the show happen, the timing and odds were stacked against us.

"After much debate the committee felt we have a responsibility to our community to make the right decision and sadly consented that it was prudent to cancel this year’s show on the proviso of bouncing back with an exciting show at full capacity in 2022.

"Whilst this will be a disappointment to many, we will instead host a virtual online Skelton Show this year with details being issued after Easter on Facebook and via our website so look out for this announcement for details of classes, the judges and how to enter!

"In addition, as everyone is looking forward to a great social event at the end of the year, a Dinner & Dance with a live band was unanimously agreed and a provisional date with the Roundthorn, Penrith would be set as soon as possible - we’ll upload the details to our website in due course.

"In the meantime, we’d like to thank everyone for their unwavering support and sincerely hope that everyone stays safe and well.

"See you for an outstanding 126th Skelton Show on Saturday 2nd July 2022 – the sunshine is already booked."
