Residents and businesses are being encouraged to recycle more to play their part to keep Allerdale clean.

The borough council has launched a campaign to increase recycling rates and reduce the amount they waste, while in turn helping to tackle issues such as dog fouling, fly-tipping and littering.

An A to Z recycling index has been created on the council’s website giving information on what can and can’t be recycled or thrown away in the kerbside service and a revamped ‘what happens to your recycling' section. More information for residents and businesses is currently being developed.

Councillor Tony Markley, the council’s Executive member for environmental services, said: “We know these issues are really important to our residents and creating a ‘cleaner, greener Allerdale’ is a key strand to our 10-year Council Strategy.”
