It goes without saying that 2020 was a turbulent year for many of us.
With lockdown rules in place, the people of Carlisle were forced to stay indoors for most of the year.
However, that didn’t stop the criminals from coming out to play as 12,026 crimes were reported in Carlisle last year.
The data from the Cumbria constabulary, via data.police.uk, shows that violent and sexual offences were the most reported crime by far with 4,453.
This was followed by anti-social behaviour with 2,369 reports.
Where crimes were committed
On or near Park House Road reported 57 public order crimes during 2020.
Whereas 117 shoplifting crimes were reported on or near a shopping centre and 71 shoplifting crimes were reported on or near London Road.
When it came to violent or sexual crimes 155 of these were reported on or near a parking area.
Prosecution
305 suspected were unable to be prosecuted for criminal damage and arson and 668 were unable to be prosecuted for public order crimes.
2,687 were unable to be prosecuted for violent and sexual crimes.
