A YOUNG Workington man has been told to pay fines totalling more than £400 after he admitted possessing two illegal drugs.

Aaron James Chatters, 21, of Roper Terrace, Salterbeck, pleaded guilty at the town's magistrates' court to possessing cocaine and to possessing cannabis resin.

He committed both offences in Workington on August 16 last year, the court heard.

For the cocaine offence, magistrates imposed a £250, while for the cannabis offence they fined the defendant £166.

Chatters must also pay £85 prosecution costs and a victim surcharge of £41.

In an unrelated case, at the same court, Sharon Lisa Thwaites, of Coleridge Court, Keswick, was given a 12 month conditional discharge for possessing cannabis.

She committed the offence on October 20, 2019.

The defendant must also pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £22.
