The family of Parker, the Labrador puppy who died after being swept into a river on Saturday have spoken about the "amazing response" and help.

The six-month-old puppy fell into the river at the Suspension Bridge on Rickerby Park in Carlisle at about noon on Saturday.

His owner, Ben Allan, jumped in after him but was unable to ave him.

His partner Faye rang the emergency services and fire brigades from Carlisle East and West attended.

Sally Waugh, Faye's mother, contacted the New and Star yesterday evening to say her sister had posted on Facebook because ben does not have social media.

"The response was amazing from the police, fire brigade, people of Carlisle and the media. Thank you for your coverage. Ben and Faye are both devastated and miss him incredibly.

"We are all grateful Ben was able to get to safety himself after r jumping in after his puppy.

"On behalf of Ben, Faye and their family thank you all so much."
