PROPOSALS to build a Carlisle care home with 80 ensuite rooms has been approved.
The Angela Swift Development Group, a builder based in Harrogate, has got planning permission for the site of the former Langrigg House care home, on Langrigg Road, Morton.

The £7m development will provide residential, dementia and respite care for elderly people and about 90 jobs are expected to be created.

The developer said the three storey home will have a range of facilities for residents including a hairdressing salon, treatment room, library, coffee shop, activity rooms, balconies overlooking adjacent parkland and landscaped gardens.

The site is being cleared to allow construction to start in next month.
Angela Swift, the firm's managing director, said: "It’s great news that our application for an 80 room development has been approved by Carlisle City Council.

“The pandemic has demonstrated even more the urgent need for facilities such as this.
“Fully ensuite accommodation allows residents to isolate within their own rooms if required, and there will be accessible outdoor space.

“The design takes into account the needs of care home staff too, to help them work safely and efficiently.

“We expect the build to be completed in summer 2022.”

The architect for the development is TDC Arch Design, the interior design is by Bernard Interiors and the contractor is Walter Thompson.

According to the builders website, it: "Specialises in the development and delivery of high quality care homes and  has considerable experience developing high quality care homes for the operating company, Silk Healthcare.

"The team bring their wealth of operational expertise to each care home design."
