Employers are being encouraged to support a virtual work experience event.

Speakers for Schools, founded in 2010 by ITV’s Political Editor Robert Peston, is calling for Cumbrian employers to get involved with its virtual work experience event.

The organisation is encouraging business owners to learn more about offering young people in Cumbria the chance to get involved in the world of work in our digital society.

Cumbrian employers have a history of inspiring young people by offering meaningful experiences within the world of work.

Speakers for Schools works with these employers to continue to improve and advance this support to reflect the difficulties we are currently facing, largely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Craig Ivison, Head of Skills at Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “With two thirds of businesses in Cumbria planning to offer work experience opportunities in the next 12 months, Cumbria Careers Hub is working with partners to develop innovative ways in which our young people can access opportunities for engagement with employers and gain experience of the workplace, providing employers with ways in which their knowledge, skills and experience can be shared with young people.

“This will enable employers to develop their future workforce and ensure young people develop the knowledge and skills required to build rewarding careers.”

The Speakers for Schools campaign aims to offer live employer-led opportunities for young people through virtual insight days and placements. Craig Ivison, Head of Skills at Cumbria LEP said: “With two thirds of businesses in Cumbria planning to offer work experience opportunities in the next 12 months, Cumbria Careers Hub is working with partners to develop ways in which our young people can access opportunities for engagement with employers and gain experience of the workplace.”

Interested employers can join 45 minute sessions on Tuesday March 2, Thursday March 4 and the following Tuesday.
