AN organisation that provides affordable food to those in need has a new home.

The Affordable Food Hub, which is operated by Carlisle Community Help, can now be found at Unit 100 Brunthill Road, Kingmoor Park on Kingstown Industrial Estate.

The hub, which was set up in September made the move on Saturday, following in the footsteps of the city's food bank which also moved to a new premises this month.

The organisation provides low-cost food for those on low incomes. Other eligible people include those on benefits such as tax credits and housing benefits, as well as those on furlough under their usual wage.

The food hub up provides parcels worth £45 for a family of up to six people for just £9 per week. This will usually include bread, meat, yoghurts, milk, tins and free fruit and veg.

It has been made possible by the fact the hub has built up relationships with local producers, who are able to supply reduced priced locally made food to offer for sale.

This week, the hub has been working to help families through half term via its free school meals project with help from Carlisle United's Community Supporters Trust, with thousands food parcels distributed across the city.
