PROPOSALS to turn former newspaper offices into a "drinking establishment" have been lodged.
Eden District Council has received plans for the former offices of The Cumberland & Westmoreland Herald on King Street, Penrith.
According to the design and access statement: "Since the newspaper ceased to manufacture and distribute the newspaper from the premises the buildings to the rear of the sales and administrative offices are no longer required.
"It is proposed to create bar and eating spaces with associated food reparation, storage, toilet accommodation and additional hotel bedrooms.
"These can all be accommodated within the existing redundant herald office buildings."
