THE POST Office says customers deposited and withdrew more than £1.6 billion over the counter in December.
Cash withdrawals totalled £640.7m, up 14 per cent on the previous month, and £978.6m in deposits, 1.3 per cent up on the same period.
It was the highest amount of personal cash withdrawals over the counter for 2020.
Martin Kearsley, director of banking, said: “Millions of people relied on cash to give as gifts or to ensure they had money for purchases in the run-up to Christmas.”
In total during 2020, £19.6 billion was deposited and £7 billion was withdrawn.
