West Cumbria Society for the Blind is still providing support services for those in need during ‘lockdown’.
Services include a telephone helpline from 9am to 4pm to offer support to any visually impaired person who needs to speak to them regarding specialist equipment, advice/guidance on coping with sight loss, everyday living aids and referral for financial benefits and other services, such as talking books etc. This service provides much needed emotional support too.
The society has also distributed baskets of fruit to people who live alone and are unable to leave their homes, to alleviate loneliness. If anyone has sight loss and needs support, they should get in touch at 01946 592474 or email sightloss.lifeline@hotmail.co.uk. The office is at: 22 Lowther Street, Whitehaven.
